APRIL 2011 CATEGORIES
DOUGHNUTS Perhaps try your hand at making doughnuts from scratch,
leavening them with yeast or baking powder. Or add whole grains to the
doughnut dough, flavor it with spices, and deep-fat fry. Add a frosting or
glaze if you like. Fill the centers with fruit, chocolate, or preserves after
frying. Another possibility. Jazz up purchased doughnuts or doughnut
holes with surprising toppings, or turn them into a special dessert with
fruit and whipped cream.
LEMONY MAIN DISHES Spark the flavor of a main dish with lemon peel
and/or juice used in a marinade or incorporated in a sauce. Or add lemon
zest to a creamy pasta or rice dish combined with crisp-tender vegetables.
Steamed, broiled, or baked fish are all naturals with a lemon-infused sauce.
Make a main-dish salad tossed in a lemon vinaigrette dressing Need another
idea? Prepare a delicate lemon-flavored soup. Share your best idea.
